The importance of water safety for infants and children
The Bayshore Gateway Triangle Redevelopment Area has several public amenities and parks that include opportunities for children and adults to enjoy water-related activities. Additionally, there are many pools, lakes, ponds and water retention canals in the area that are attractive to children, especially as the warmer weather approaches over the coming months. Sadly, there was a toddler death at Sugden Park due to drowning in the summer of 2013. In an effort to avoid accidents like this tragedy in the future, the CRA wants to spread the word about an amazing opportunity available to us locally. Did you know that we have an Infant Swim Resourse (ISR) certified Master Instructor right here in our area? Fernanda Whitney teaches children ages 6 months to 6 years how to be safe in and around water. The lessons are held at Scuba Outfitters of Naples, located at 1949 Davis Boulevard, #2. More information is available on her website www.swimsafenaples.com. Several videos are available at the youtube link below. A new session is starting up soon so contact her to set up a time. Your son/daughter/grandchild will enjoy the classes and will be much more safe and confident around our waterways and pools.
