On July 13, 2021 the Board of County Commissioners approved the Bayshore Gateway Triangle Public Art Pilot Plan and authorized staff to submit a proposed change to the Land Development Code related to murals in the Bayshore Gateway Triangle Community Redevelopment Area (BGTCRA). The vision for this plan is one where art celebrates the BGTCRA history, vibrant cultures, and people. The Plan outlines guiding principles, goals and program management strategies for plan implementation. Over the next several months, CRA staff will begin the processes to establish the procedures needed for plan implementation.

In order to allow for murals to be installed in the BGTCRA, an amendment to the Land Development Code and Administrative Code is required. The amendment provides a process consistent with the Public Art Pilot Plan. The amendment has been reviewed by the Development Services Advisory Committee and was reviewed by the Collier County Planning Commission on December 16 2021. The item is being further reviewed by the County Attorney’s Office and will be brought back to the Planning Commission at a future date.

The Plan proposes a Public Art Committee be created to advise the Board on all matters relating to the public art within the entire unincorporated area of the County, including the Bayshore Gateway Triangle Community Redevelopment Area. The Ordinance to create the PAC was approved by the BCC on December 14, 2021.
