17 Acre Site – Pedestrian Connection

On May 24, 2022 the Board of County Commissioners acting as the ex-officio Community Redevelopment Agency unanimously approved the $344,932 contract with Stantec Inc to design and permit a pedestrian connection from Bayshore Drive to Sugden Park.  This connection has been a priority for the community for many years.  The scope of the work will include community input meetings on the overall design elements.  The design and permitting phase should be completed in 340 days. The CRA has funds budgeted to build the connection once design and permitting is completed.  In 2008, the CRA purchased approximately 18 acres of property to develop a cultural arts destination in the community. In 2012, the CRA rezoned the property to the Cultural Arts Mixed Use Planned Unit Development (MPUD). Over the past 10 years the CRA has solicited interest from property developers to create a mixed use site. Based on input and direction received during the redevelopment plan update in 2019, the vision for the site shifted to park land while maintaining a cultural arts component.

Site Analysis & Conceptual Plan was presented at the August 17th CRA Special Meeting.
